To join as a Royal Marines Cadet you must be between 13 to 17 years old inclusive. If you're younger you may be able to join as a Junior or a Sea Cadet and if you're older you may be able to join as an Adult Volunteer.

As a Royal Marines Cadet you'll spend a lot of your time learning about the Royal Marines and you'll be expected to maintain the impressive high standards of the force. Your training will be based more on land rather than on the water but there’s still plenty of time to get wet too...

With regional camps and courses being ran regularly you'll make friends from further afield quickly as you learn things such as camping, map reading and weapons handling together. And just like the Royal Marines Commandos, you'll often find yourself sleeping under the stars in the field as your fellow cadets keep a look out.

As a Royal Marines Cadet you're still part of the Sea Cadet Corps and you'll still be able to access all of the opportunities which your Sea Cadet colleagues can. This includes national courses at one of our 4 national training centres which are located around the country in Torpoint, Portsmouth, Weymouth & Rosyth. They each offer weekend and week long courses in a wide variety of activities on the water and on land. We also run regular competitions in things such as Football, Drill, Band, Sailing, Power Boat Handling, Kayaking, Rowing, Swimming, Shooting and Archery amongst others. which are contested at three different levels: District, Area and National.

Just like the Sea Cadets, you'll receive two uniforms; a smart and a working rig which you'll be expected to maintain to a high standard - inspections take place regularly on parade nights, camps and courses.

Once you've got to grips with how things work you might like to consider going for promotion and advancing through the ranks - You'll pick up all the skills you need to lead your fellow cadets and eventually reach the rank of Cadet Sergeant, the most senior cadet rank possible.

Royal Marines Cadets meet at the unit on Monday & Thursday evenings between 6:30pm and 9:30pm
